FAQs

No. Wood pellets can be of very different quality, and while standards exist (go to PelletHeat.com) from the Pellet Fuel Institute in North America, enforcement of quality standards is currently up to the individual manufacturer. Currently, premium wood pellets are required in virtually all wood pellet stoves, and most wood pellet central heating furnaces and boilers. Premium quality pellets are defined by the ash content (less than 1%), durability (index of less than 2.5% breakage in a 10 minute tumble test), minimum fines (dust and sawdust from breakage) in a 40-pound bag, and several other criteria.

Corinth Wood Pellets monitors the quality of our pellets several times daily in our own testing lab at the factory, to assure that we are making truly premium quality wood pellets per the standards established by the Pellet Fuels Institute. That said, wood is a natural product, and is subject to variation from one tree to another. At our factory in Corinth, Maine, we process nearly one truckload of wood every hour. We test every truckload when it is delivered, but even then we find that a few tons out of the thousands of tons we manufacture every year are not up to our high standards. We are working on control systems to guarantee that 99.999% of everything we ship is truly premium quality, but if a customer is not satisfied with the quality of our pellets, we gladly replace them at our expense.

Growth of the pellet industry has added a number of new manufacturers in recent years, and each manufacturer makes choices regarding their raw material supply, manufacturing process, quality and profitability. At Corinth Wood Pellets, we have made our choice for a consistent high quality standard. We think that is what our customers want, and in the long run this will pay off. While our pellets may cost a little more than what you might find in a big box store, we think consistent quality, resulting in safe, convenient use, is worth it.
